Paia Bay Cafe was established in 2011. The new owners, Michele and Donnie, were the previous owners of Hawaiian Moons Natural Foods for seventeen years. They bring a wealth of knowledge to the food preparation at the cafe as well as a fun atmosphere. After selling Hawaiian Moons, Michele and Donnie retired and that lasted all of eight months before Michele was golfed out and Donnie was surf and mountain biked out. So back into the fray they went and they are enjoying every moment with their new venture.

Paia Bay Cafe offers a Maui north shore experience in one of the coolest towns in Hawaii. Enjoy the best espresso, Maui grown coffee, breakfast burritos, pastries, sandwiches, paninis, salads, smoothies, bagels and wraps. Sit outside and watch the wild world of Paia walk by. At this year’s Chinese New Year Sunday Brunch Celebration everyone enjoyed the magical Lion Dance ceremonies, full of hope and excitement for the year to come. The Lions are considered mythical beings, as there are no lions in China.

During the ceremony the lions are attracted by firecrackers and drumming. The crowd then feeds donation envelopes to the lions. Finally the lion eats a head of lettuce to gain the final donation, a transfer of energy that teaches everyone the lesson that you can not get something for nothing. You must give to recieve.

There was plenty of excitement, energy and Aloha at this year’s celebration. Mahalo to everyone who came out to be a part of it all.
