Fifty years ago, John and Kealoha Lake established Hawaiian Canoe Club to perpetuate and preserve the art of outrigger canoe paddling by developing character through traditional Hawaiian values. These Hawaiian values and principals are based on respect for the kupuna, fostering the keiki, and nourishing ‘ohana values.
Our keiki programs have expanded over the years and now provide our youth with paddling trips to Lana’i, Kaho’olawe, and Moloka’i, paddle making programs, and other experiences that teach Hawaiian values like lokahi or “working together as one”. Additionally, we have partnered with other non-profit organizations to other provide educational and recreational services at our hale. These experiences help our keiki learn respect for themselves and our community.
Our Vision
To become a culturally-grounded canoe ‘ohana internationally recognized and respected for excellence in competition, cultural programs and leadership development.
Our Mission
To perpetuate and preserve the art of Hawaiian canoe paddling by providing an environment rooted in traditional Hawaiian values that promote personal growth, character development, and achievement in physical fitness.
