Maui’s Premier garden-to-table event, Taste of School Gardens, was held on Saturday, March 12th. This fourth annual event featured Maui’s premiere chefs coming together to support school gardens and inspire our future farmers, chefs, teachers, and scientists.

This year’s event took place at Hotel Wailea’s beautiful Sunset Lawn. Guests enjoyed dishes made from local and school garden grown ingredients, fine wine, live music by Soul Kitchen and ocean sunset views.
Featured chefs included:

– Chef Gary Johnson of Hana Ranch Provisions
– Chef Craig Dryhurst of DUO at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea
– Chef Cameron Lewark of Spago
– Chef Brian Etheredge of Capische?
– Chef Christopher Kulis of The Market
– Chef Brian Murphy of Cow Pig Bun
– Chef Kevin Laut of The Outrigger Pizza Company

– Chef Don Marceaux of Fabiani’s

Grow Some Good is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating hands-on, outdoor learning experiences that cultivate curiosity about natural life cycles, connect students to their food sources, and inspire better nutrition choices. We operate school gardens in 12 schools across Maui, with 3,000 youth participating in our program each year. All proceeds from the event go to support our school garden programs.

9th Annual Butterfly Effect Maui – April 25th, 2015

The Butterfly Effect is a worldwide movement hinged on empowering and inspiring athletic women everywhere, to grow together as a community and to use their collective drive to give back to local charities, all while encouraging a healthy lifestyle, a vibrant community, and active local involvement. Since its first event in 2007 on Maui, Hawaii with a dozen women, The Butterfly Effect has evolved into a BE ALOHA World Tour with over 30 different non-competitive events in 17 countries and with thousands of participants.

be the effect locations

The Butterfly Effect strives to empower women through water sports. Each event is designed to give every “Butterfly” more confidence, joy, and skill in her board riding, as well as her navigation through everyday life. We do this by making environmental awareness, education, and community give-back activities a big part of each Butterfly Effect event.
Who are the butterflies?

The “Butterflies” are the women participants, usually in the 18-35 age range. These women love seeking adventure, challenge, and asserting their femininity during sports. They also have a passion for giving back to the world.
Events

Be The EffectThe Butterfly Effect events create an environment that gives participants the confidence to achieve a goal in a supportive group setting. We’ll take you as you are! Do you paddle, windsurf, kite, kayak or swim? Are you a beginner, local shredder, or maybe a pro? It doesn’t matter: all of these sports and experience levels are welcome. We’re all in it, but not to win it! Each event includes the following activities:

• Community Give-Back (beach clean-up, clothing donation, free clinics, fundraising, etc.)
• Introductory yoga class and warm-up stretch prior to the main activity.
• A “Downwind” event, in which the rider starts at one point and ends up at another point downwind of the original location.
• Ending ceremony with party, sponsor gifts, food, drinks, music, and a fashion show.
Trips

Since our events are held at exotic beaches all over the world, The Butterfly Effect creates organized vacations around many event dates. By spending a few more days together, Butterflies get to know each other and have fun doing water sports and other activities. The Butterfly Effect trips focus on board sports, and include healthy meals, daily yoga, and other activities that enhance participants’ total well-being.
Giving Back

Below are some of our local charities we work with here on Maui. Contact us to learn how you can help in your community!
